Explore Beyond Atlantic Shores

Accommodation is in our family’s spectacular Georgian Rectory in Symondsbury. This beautiful house, once one of the largest rectories in England, traces its roots back to the fifteenth century. The Rev. Walter Newburgh, a prominent member of the Dorchester Adventurer organisation, occupied the previous rectory on the same site from 1624 until his death in 1631. It is just over a mile from Bridport, which was granted its first Royal Charter in 1253 and within a mile of the outstanding Lyme Bay Coast. Stretching for 95 miles this truly stunning coastline is England’s first natural World Heritage Site. It is now known colloquially as the Jurassic Coast in view of its distinct geography recording 185 million years of the earth’s history and the richness of its varied wildlife and flora.

The County Town of Dorchester and the harbour of Weymouth are both within a 30 minute drive from Bridport whilst Plymouth, Glastonbury and Stonehenge are a little further afield. The small and picturesque port of Lyme Regis is about 20 minutes away.
